STORY ABOUT SHANTI CHAUDHARY

 

– Shanti Chaudhary, 28 years is the residence of Gadwa RuralMuncipality -5-Banki. She has 4 members in her family. She has one daughter and one son. Both of them study in nearby boarding school. Her husband worked as mason and whole family depend on him for daily necessity. Her family has only 5 kattha land.

Before the project intervention there were several difficulties to meet the daily expenses of the family and education of the children. They used to depend upon the income of the husband’s income to manage their daily necessities and education expenses. She used to farming as ADHIYA and stitch clothes for her family. Her house was destroyed in fire and took loan of Nrs 40000 to reconstruct house.

Now she is Secretary of Banki Landright women farmer group. Although she was in land right forum group but she has no idea how to initiate enterprise. She participates in different training such as women leadership training, vegetable farming training and also attends regularly in Business and right literacy class. She is acquainted with different services and provision in local government, rights and entitlement, planning process of local government etc. After that she found more active and interested to initiate enterprise. SWAN/IM Power project support to start leasehold vegetable farming. Project bear hundred percent land rent and inputs materials (seed, spray, plastic etc) to initiate leasehold vegetable farming in 4 kattha. She obtained of net income of 3 lakhs per year from leasehold vegetable farming. In this year she sells 3 quintal of onion sapling of about Nrs 60000 and obtain income of about Nrs 159175 from other vegetable. She has about Nrs 80000 saving in Unko Cooperative , Gadwa 5 Banki. She invest about Nrs 300000 on her and daughter insurance and also prepare jewellery of Nrs 54000 from the income of leasehold farming. Initially she used to carry vegetable on basket and used to go door to door to sells their vegetable but now vegetable vendors reach in her vegetable farm to collect vegetable. Now she is aware about their rights and entitlement. She is able to dialogue with local government and other agencies to claim their rights and services. She got seeds, mushroom and irrigation support from local government.

Now days she easily manages expenses of children’s and daily family expenses from the income of vegetable farming. She has planned to extend leasehold vegetable by using her saving and if needed she is planning to take loan from cooperatives in coming days. She thanks for POWER project for transforming her from household wife to entrepreneur.
